Fae Bargains: The Debt You Can’t Pay

You’ve heard the stories. Beautiful, otherworldly creatures who walk among us, offering gifts and wonders beyond imagination. But the gifts always exact a price, and the wonders often turn to horrors. Fae don’t want to improve your life. They’re here to play with it. Beware of:

  • The Small Favor: It always starts with something easy. “Hold this for me,” or “Say my name under the full moon.” Just a test to see if you’ll play along.
  • The Gift: Something tempting. Luck in love. A perfect singing voice. Untold wealth. You never see the price until after you accept.
  • The Bargain: A fae’s word is binding. Every syllable is deliberate. Every omission is a trap. And they have no concept of “fair.”

Counting the Cost
A friend of a friend took a fae up on an offer. A simple gift: one night where everyone had to tell her the truth. She found out secrets she was never meant to hear. But the price? Now, she could never lie. Ever. She lost her job, her friends and her mind.

What Happens When You Can’t Pay?
There are stories of those who tried to break their deals, who refused to pay. Their luck turned to ruin. Their voices became whispers in the wind. One day, they were human. The next? Something else.

The OHR and the Fae
The OHR has rules about dealing with the fae. They enforce treaties, police the worst of them and keep records of known fae hotspots. Hands tied by millennia-old legalities, they treat official representatives of the Fae court like embassy personnel: respected but carefully monitored. Bottom line: Don’t count on the OHR to help you with fae.

TLDR: If a fae offers you a drink, refuse. If a fae offers you a deal, walk away. If they offer you a favor… run!

Stay sharp. Stay Unveiled.
